In this two hour workshop, you’ll learn a number of improv singing games as well as how to incorporate music into your scene work. We will warm up and gather around the piano and learn what makes an improvised song work and how to sustain it. Don’t sing? That’s ok, neither does Colin Mockery on Who’s Line, and that’s never stopped him. If you have any fear of musical improv, this is the class for you! Some level of previous improv is recommended.
Brian Michael Jones began his professional musical theater career with Oliver! and highlights from his many stage productions include West Side Story and 42nd Street both with the original Broadway Choreography. He has danced and sung in many films and TV shows over the years with two memorable ones being Joel and Ethan Coen’s Hail Caesar! with Channing Tatum as the aptly named Sailor #1 and a singing telegram fish in Grey’s Anatomy. He was Frodo in the award winning “Fellowship!” a musical parody of Fellowship of the Ring and even got to improvise songs with Brian Henson’s Puppet Up! in Los Angeles and Las Vegas. On the improv stage, he’s performed in hundreds of full length improvised musicals over the years. If you can’t tell already, he’s serious about funny-make-em-ups and musical improv is his most favoritest thing ever.
